About the IPRA
The IPRA was founded in 1957 when there still wasn’t a formal sanctioning group for rodeos. The basis of the association was to bring consistency to rodeos as the expansion west of the Mississippi continued. Up to this point, rodeos had only been Wild West Shows and pasture events that did little for the sport’s overall credibility. The association’s name actually started as the “Interstate Rodeo Association” and didn’t change to its current name until 1964. Today, the IPRA has become the sports second largest professional rodeo association sanctioning nearly 300 rodeos. The IPRA has a membership base of over 2,400 members and currently sanctions rodeos across the United States with 15 of these events being held in Oklahoma. In the last few years, the IPRA has also become a powerhouse in Canada sanctioning 40 rodeos there as well. Check out their 2022 IPRA Rodeo Schedule below!
